Hello, my name is Kate and I have run Kate's Family Dog Training since 2016.
I initially fell in love with learning about animal behaviour whilst completing my degree in Animal Science at Newcastle University. I then went on to study animal behaviour in more depth, being awarded a distinction for my MSc in Animal Behaviour and Welfare in 2015.
I set up my business because I want to help people to understand their dogs better, which I believe is the key to effective training. I mainly work with family pets, because as a mother to young children I understand how difficult it can be to find the time to commit to ongoing training, particularly if you are already dealing with problem behaviour with your dog.
I understand that life is hectic, and sometimes our dog's behaviour can seem unmanageable with the time and resources we have available. That's where I come in.
My aim is to make training as simple, fun and effective as possible. There are no quick fixes, but there are ways of breaking down a task into small, manageable chunks. Where possible, I encourage the whole family (children too!) to be involved in the training.
We're not looking to create the next Crufts champion- we just want a well-adjusted family pet that is a pleasure to live with, rather than a source of added stress.
With my step-by-step guides and ongoing support packages, my goal is to make training your dog so simple that you can't go wrong.
As an IMDT accredited trainer, you can be assured that I use only modern, science-based techniques which are kind as well as effective. Learning should be an enjoyable experience for your dog, as well as the humans!
